Oldham: So, the police hit the scene at an old pub in Oldham and found a massive cannabis farm worth over a million pounds. Crazy, right?
They got a tip-off from locals and decided to check it out. Around 9:30 AM, they broke into the place on Higginshaw Lane and, wow, they found a whole setup with mature plants. It was all pretty high-tech, too, since they had bypassed the local electricity supply.
They arrested a guy in his 20s after a bit of a chase. The police stayed on-site for a while, taking photos and gathering evidence. They’re still looking into it, and all that cannabis is set to be taken down and destroyed.
Neighbors mentioned that the fire service and the electricity board were also around, digging up the road outside. It caused a bit of a traffic mess with all the lights at the busy crossroads.
One local from a dog-grooming salon across the street said they saw bright orange lamps inside the pub. They could smell the weed right away, so it was pretty obvious what was going on.
People around there remembered the building as a pub, and it’s been quiet for a while. A neighbor named Brian, who’s lived there for 40 years, said it felt like a scene from a movie when the police smashed in the doors.
He also mentioned that the electricity board was there late into the night, causing quite a racket. It’s usually a quiet area, mostly industrial, so this was a big deal.
Inspector Stuart Berry from GMP said this is a great example of how they’re acting on community tips to keep everyone safe. They’re serious about tackling drug issues in Greater Manchester and want to make the area feel safer.
