Rankin Inlet: The polar vortex is about to shake things up across North America. Next week, we’re looking at some seriously cold temps, dipping into the -20s and -30s in parts of Canada.
Even places like the Carolinas and Florida aren’t safe. They’ll see freezing temps too, thanks to this polar vortex making its way south.
So, what’s the deal with wind chill? It’s how cold it feels when you mix the temperature with the wind. And trust me, it’s going to feel a lot colder than it actually is.
In northern Manitoba and parts of Quebec, folks will be feeling wind chills in the -30s, -40s, and even -50s for a few hours. That’s some serious cold!
If you want to find the worst of it, head to the Kivalliq region of Nunavut, where wind chills will stick around in the -50s for over 24 hours. Yikes!
In Rankin Inlet, the forecast shows temps from the mid -20s to mid -30s, but with winds gusting at 40-50 km/h, it’ll feel like -50. That’s a real chill!
Arviat is also in for a rough time, with wind chills hitting the -50s from Friday night through Sunday morning. But things should calm down a bit by Sunday afternoon.
Western Canada isn’t escaping either. They’ll see temps in the -20s, with wind chills feeling like -30s and -40s. The only lucky ones are in southern British Columbia, where it might just stay above freezing.
Central Canada will catch the cold wave by Monday, with wind chills in the -20s and -30s. Atlantic Canada will have to wait until late Monday or Tuesday for their turn at the coldest temps in years.
Stay safe out there! Make sure you know how to keep warm and watch for signs of frostbite and hypothermia.
