Pointon resident calls for a faster response from authorities following flood damage to homes in the area

Pointon: A local resident is really frustrated with how long it took for authorities to respond after the recent flooding. Leanne Mansell feels that if they had acted faster, the damage could have been less severe.

She’s been pushing for a solid plan to prevent future floods, especially after the extreme weather hit Lincolnshire. Last year, the community set up an emergency flood group and got some funding for sandbags and other supplies. But this time, they weren’t as ready.

When the flooding hit overnight, many folks woke up to find their homes underwater. Leanne and some neighbors jumped into action at 7 am, filling sandbags and helping families evacuate. By the afternoon, the water had receded, but then Billingborough started to flood, so they rushed to help there too.

Leanne’s home was lucky, but some of her friends weren’t so fortunate. After last year’s disaster, everyone hoped they wouldn’t have to face it again. The Environment Agency had done a survey to figure out what to do, but nothing has changed since then.

At a parish council meeting last November, the same report was read out, and it took them 11 months to put it together. Just a month later, they were flooded again. Some residents have great ideas about how to improve drainage, but they need permission to make those changes themselves. It’s clear that more needs to be done to protect the community from future flooding.
