East Yorkshire: So, there was this crazy incident where a plane crashed right in someone’s garden. It happened on June 18, 2024, and thankfully, the pilot and two passengers only got minor injuries.
The pilot, who’s been flying for a while, had just picked up the passengers from Eddsfield Airfield. Everything seemed fine until they took off. The plane hit some treetops and the pilot had to steer it through the trees to find a clear spot to land.
Unfortunately, that spot turned out to be a driveway and a garden. The plane was completely wrecked, but the good news is everyone got out okay. The pilot had a Private Pilot’s Licence and about 1,475 hours of flying experience under his belt.
After the take-off, the pilot noticed the plane was sinking instead of climbing. He tried to adjust but ended up clipping the trees. The report mentioned that the aircraft had been parked for a bit before taking off again, and everything seemed normal until it wasn’t.
They checked the engine and everything was working fine, but the pilot thought maybe the wind or a power issue could have caused the crash. He also mentioned something about possible carburettor icing, which could have been a factor.
It’s a reminder that flying can be unpredictable, especially with tricky weather conditions. The pilot said he’ll definitely be more cautious about those gusty winds and obstacles like trees in the future.
