Peterborough: Fresh plans are in the works to build homes on the grounds of a listed manor house. Alston Country Homes has submitted a proposal to the city council for nine new homes in the former farmyard area of the Grade II* listed Manor House on High Street, Glinton.
They’re also looking to get the green light for some work on a dovecote structure on the site, which they want to include in one of the homes. You might remember that a similar plan for ten homes was turned down last July because of concerns about changes to the dovecote and the loss of historical features.
They tried again with another application for ten homes, but that one was pulled back in October 2023 since it didn’t fully address the planning and heritage issues. Now, they’ve scaled it down to nine homes after some more consultations.
The latest application claims that this new plan is a better fit and meets planning standards. They’ve designed the homes to blend in well with the area and have a plan for the dovecote that takes into account the previous feedback.
They’re confident that this development won’t harm the heritage of the site and that it aligns with local and national planning policies. The proposed site is within Glinton’s village envelope and is marked for housing development.
The plan includes two two-bedroom homes and seven larger homes, all designed in a barn style. A historic buildings consultant, Jonathan Biggadike, mentioned that the new design has been carefully crafted to minimize any impact on the dovecote while using quality materials that suit the area.
Now, it’s just a waiting game to see what the planners decide.
