Dunmow: So, the old Barclays bank is getting a makeover! The council has given the green light to turn it into five new flats and two shops. Pretty cool, right? The plans include one and two-bedroom flats, which should be a nice addition to the area.
Originally, the developer wanted to squeeze in seven flats, but they scaled it back. Now, there will be three parking spots and a secure bike storage area for eight bikes. That’s a win for cyclists!
The two shops will be right on the high street, making them super accessible. The flats will be tucked away in the quieter parts of the building, which sounds perfect for anyone looking for a bit of peace.
Interestingly, the plans also mention that they won’t mess with the neighbors’ views or overshadow their homes. That’s always a plus when new developments come into play.
They had to adjust the original proposal after some feedback, but it seems like they’re on the right track now. The heritage officer is keen on keeping the building’s charm, especially the front facade, which is great for preserving local history.
By the way, this Barclays branch closed down back in August 2022. They said folks are just banking online more these days, which is why they shut it down. It’s nice to see the space getting a new life!
