Stockton Heath: Exciting news! The Warrington Borough Council has given the green light to enhance the local war memorial. They’re planning to add two silhouette figures from the Royal British Legion just in time for Remembrance Day.
The figures will be placed on the pillars of the memorial, which sits at the busy crossroads of Ellesmere Road and London Road. It’s a spot that many locals pass by, especially during the Remembrance Day Service.
The parish council, which looks after the memorial, wants to make it more visually appealing. They’ve seen other memorials in the area, like the Cenotaph on Bridge Foot, and thought, why not do something similar?
These new figures will really stand out. One will show a male soldier with a rifle, and the other will depict a female soldier saluting. They’re made from durable materials and will be about 1.47 meters tall.
The plan is for these figures to be a permanent addition, but they can also be taken down after Remembrance events if needed. The council has set some conditions, like starting the work within three years, so it’s all moving forward!
