Plans for new Newton-le-Willows Police Station approved

Newton-le-Willows: So, the planning committee just gave the green light for a new police station! It’s going to be a single-storey building with a car park, cycle storage, and security fencing. They’re putting it right where the old police car park is on Peel Street.

The committee met on Tuesday, and they decided to let the head of planning services finalize everything. Cllr Seve Gomez-Aspron, who’s also the deputy council leader, called it “good news.” He pointed out that the original police strategy dates back to 2013, and given the cuts to police numbers over the years, getting this approved feels like a win.

Cllr Richard McCauley, who’s in charge of growth and regeneration, mentioned that the design has been tweaked to fit better with the area. He thanked the council officers for their work on it. Cllr Derek Long, the committee chair, thinks it’s a great outcome for the community.

The new station will replace the old one and is located in Earlestown town center. The current car park holds about 25 cars, but the new setup will have eight spaces, including spots for electric vehicles and disabled parking.

The building will have a modern look with a mix of brick and render. It’ll be about 7.6 meters tall and will be accessible from Market Street. The plan is to make sure the new facilities are up to date for public safety without affecting local businesses or the town’s vibe. Sounds like a solid plan for the area!
