Plans for Over 70 New Homes Near Historic Derbyshire Castle
A proposal for 75 homes near a medieval castle in Derbyshire has been submitted, aiming to address the housing crisis in the area

Castle Gresley: So, there’s this plan to build over 70 homes just outside a village in Derbyshire, right near an ancient castle. Nightingale Land is behind it, and they want to put up 75 homes on some fields by Linton Road.
If the South Derbyshire District Council gives the green light, these homes will be close to some local spots like Toons Furnishers and the A444 roundabout. It’s been a while since a similar plan was shot down back in 2019 because it would mess with the landscape and the castle’s vibe.
This new plan is a bit different, though. They’re keeping the homes away from the field closest to the ancient castle, which is a smart move. The main access will still be off Hillside Road, with another entry for emergency services and pedestrians near the Post Office.
The folks behind the proposal say it’s a good time to build because there’s a housing crisis in England. They’re looking to offer a mix of homes, including affordable options, which is pretty cool.
Out of the 75 homes, 27 would be affordable, with most available for rent. They’re also planning some bungalows, which is nice for variety. The council will decide on this in the next few months, so we’ll see what happens!
