Billericay: So, there’s this plan to build over 1,100 homes on greenbelt land, and folks are not happy about it. Local residents are really worried about what this means for their town.

At a recent council meeting, about 100 residents showed up to voice their concerns. They were hoping the council would reject the plans for 250 homes on Laindon Road, but it didn’t go their way.

They’re talking about investing over £1.3 million in infrastructure, but many locals feel that’s not enough. Only 125 of those homes would be affordable, which isn’t great for everyone looking for a place to live.

One council member, Richard Moore, pointed out that if all these developments go through, it could lead to a total of over 1,100 new homes. He’s worried about the impact on the greenbelt, which has been protected for years.

People in the meeting were really passionate. They clapped and cheered when someone made a good point. One woman raised safety concerns about the construction, especially where the new road would cross paths. She felt it could be dangerous for everyone, especially kids.

Another resident, Greg McManus, highlighted the potential damage to ancient woodlands nearby. He’s worried about the increase in traffic and pollution, especially on Laindon Road, which is already pretty narrow.

Many locals feel that the infrastructure just isn’t there to support such a big increase in population. They’re concerned about schools, medical facilities, and all the other services that would need to keep up.

Overall, it seems like a lot of people in Billericay are hoping the council will reconsider or at least delay the decision on these plans. They want to protect their community and the green spaces they cherish.
