Cheshire: The planning department of Cheshire West and Chester Council has given the go-ahead for a vacant building on High Street. This two-storey structure used to be a veterinary surgery.

In 2020, there was a plan to turn it into a cafe, but that didn’t happen. Now, it will be transformed into a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) with seven bedrooms.

An HMO is a place where three or more people live together but aren’t from the same household. They have their own bedrooms but share kitchens and bathrooms.

While HMOs can be controversial, supporters argue they offer affordable housing in a pricey market. A council report highlighted the need for diverse housing options.

The report noted that the building has been empty for years and has been actively marketed for sale. It recommended approval, stating the site is in an area where new residential development is welcomed.

It concluded that, with certain conditions, planning permission should be granted for this project.
