Oundle: So, the council has given the thumbs up for 50 new homes to be built right next to the town cemetery. Pretty big news, right?
This whole thing started back in 2019 when David Wilson Homes first pitched the idea. They finally got the full planning application sorted out in 2021.
The site is about 700 meters from the town center and covers a decent chunk of land—2.37 hectares, to be exact. There will be off-street parking and some nice public spaces for everyone to enjoy.
Right now, the land is used for farming, but it used to be allotments. Quite a change, huh?
Of course, not everyone is on board. There were quite a few objections, mainly about flooding and traffic. People were also worried about how this would affect the cemetery’s future.
But the developers listened and made some changes to the plans to ease those worries. They really tried to keep the rural vibe of the area intact.
In their updated statement, they assured that the development wouldn’t mess with the cemetery’s peaceful setting. They also looked into how it would impact local roads and services and found no major issues.
The council officially approved everything on December 16, and now the builders have three years to get started. Exciting times ahead for Oundle!
