Lymm: So, there was this crazy flooding situation with the Bridgewater Canal. It burst after some serious rain, the first time in over 50 years. Can you believe that?

The canal gave way near Dunham Massey, and it was a real mess. Local politicians, like Graham Gowland and Esther McVey, went to check on the boaters affected by the whole thing.

Graham mentioned they came up with an action plan to help everyone out. Thankfully, everyone is safe, which is a relief. Now, they’re figuring out how to fix the canal properly.

Peter Parkinson, the director of the canal, said they jumped into action right away when they heard about the breach. They set up emergency stoplogs to manage the situation and prevent more flooding.

They’ve been working with the police and other agencies to keep everyone safe and supported. They even provided alternative accommodation and essentials like water and toilets for those impacted.

Now, they’re planning to install dams to help refloat the stranded boats, including one at Ye Old No.3. Water control specialists are checking out the site to see how they can make it happen.

They’ll also keep an eye on the stoplogs and the earth dam to make sure everything stays stable. Plus, they’re looking into what caused the embankment to fail in the first place.

If anyone needs help, Peter said to reach out via email or phone. They’re asking folks to stay clear of the area while they sort everything out. It’s a tough situation, but they’re on it!
