Mossley: So, there was this plan to build new homes behind an industrial warehouse, but it got shot down. The council said it just wasn’t safe.
They were looking to put up 17 homes right next to the Roaches industrial estate, but folks were worried about the living conditions. The access road was a big issue, with one local saying it was too dangerous for regular cars.
Harry Cyprus, who owns some industrial units nearby, was pretty vocal about it. He didn’t want more traffic on a road already filled with big trucks and vans. He made it clear at the planning meeting that he wouldn’t allow access through his road.
He argued that it would take away land that businesses need, and it just wasn’t a safe spot for more vehicles. Plus, Mossley Town Council was against the idea too, worried about losing valuable employment land.
Council member Tafheen Sharif raised some serious concerns about the land itself. Apparently, it used to be a gas works site, and there were worries about contamination. He mentioned things like asbestos and even methane being a risk to people’s health.
The applicants, Mrs. A Jones and Mrs. A Bradbury, didn’t even show up to defend their proposal at the meeting. In the end, the planning panel unanimously decided to reject the application.
