Bristol: The city is buzzing with news about a big change coming to Park Street. The Bristol City Council has unveiled plans to revamp the road layout and street scenes in this popular area. We’re talking about a £15 million project that stretches from the Victoria Rooms all the way down to College Green.
So, what’s the plan? Well, the council wants to make it easier for buses to get through without getting stuck in traffic. You know how it is—buses often get caught at the bottom of Whiteladies Road and in the busy Clifton Triangle. The solution? More bus lanes and making Park Street less of a through-route for cars.
Only taxis, bikes, scooters, and buses will have access to certain parts of Park Street. The rest of us will need to use back roads to get there. It’s a bit of a shift, but it’s all about making the area more pedestrian-friendly.
Speaking of which, the second goal of this project is to enhance the whole vibe of Park Street. By widening the pavements and narrowing the roads for cars, the council hopes to create a more inviting space with trees, outdoor cafes, and dedicated bike lanes. Sounds nice, right?
They’ve even shared some CGI images showing what the changes will look like. While the focus is on the pretty parts—like wide pavements and tree-lined dining areas—there’s not much on the bus gate or the bus lane entrance. But hey, it’s a big change for one of Bristol’s busiest spots.
So, what do you think? Is it time for a transformation of Bristol’s road network? Check out the images and see how the area will evolve!
