Bristol: A pedestrian zone on Princess Victoria Street is here to stay! After a three-year trial, the city has decided to make it permanent. This area has been closed to traffic daily from 11am to 5pm since August 2021, and it’s been a hit.

People can stroll, cycle, or just hang out without worrying about cars zooming by. Plus, local cafes and restaurants have been able to set up outdoor seating, making the whole vibe much more lively.

Starting January 27, construction will kick off to turn the temporary setup into something more permanent. The city plans to create a smooth, raised surface with nice stone paving and add tactile paving to help everyone navigate safely.

They’ll also replace the temporary parklet with permanent seating, add new planters, and keep space for café tables. More bike parking is on the way too, and they’ll swap out the current bollards for gates to keep motor vehicles out.

Councillor Ed Plowden is excited about the changes. He mentioned how much people enjoy the relaxed atmosphere for shopping and dining. He’s grateful to everyone who helped shape this plan, especially the local businesses.

This project is backed by £655,000 from the UK Government, aimed at improving sustainable transport in the area. It’s a great step forward for Bristol!
