London: So, people are starting to notice that they can actually get furniture inspired by the Tube! It’s pretty cool, but the prices? Yikes! Some items are really pricey. The London Transport Museum has a shop that sells everything from Tube line hats for £15 to sofas that can cost over £2,000.
These made-to-order pieces use the same fabric as Tube seats. You can get armchairs, 2/3 seater sofas, and even cushions. The cushions are made from the same rolls of fabric used for London’s transport vehicles. How neat is that?
While some folks knew about the little gifts and trinkets, many were surprised by how much more was available. You can even choose from 21 different moquette patterns for your furniture!
On Reddit, people were buzzing about what they found. One person shared that they have a few cushions and said they’re amazing and surprisingly subtle for Tube-themed decor. Another chimed in, saying the fabric is super tough and should last for ages.
But then, reality hit when they saw the prices. One person wanted a cushion in Tube line fabric but was shocked it was £40! They thought the fabric must be pricey since it’s durable, but still, that’s a lot. Another person was like, “I’d think about that cushion, but NOT at £200!”
While some were taken aback by the costs, Sarah Fellingham-Adkin, the museum’s enterprise director, mentioned that every purchase helps support the museum’s work. She said the furniture range is a unique way to own a piece of London’s transport history. Each item is handmade in the UK using authentic materials.
Besides sofas and armchairs, there are moquette cushions starting at £35 and footstools from £220. Every purchase really does help the museum as it operates as an education and heritage charity.
By the way, the London Transport Museum is in Covent Garden and is open 362 days a year. If you want to check it out, you can find more info on their website.
