London: So, here’s the scoop. If you’re planning a summer trip to Spain, you might want to be careful. Police are sounding the alarm about scams tied to Booking.com.
Apparently, some holidaymakers have lost a pretty penny—over £370,000 in total! That’s an average of £695 per person. Yikes!
Fraud officers say that scammers are hijacking hotel accounts and then sending out fake messages asking for payments. It’s sneaky, right? They’re using emails, in-app messages, and even WhatsApp to trick people.
Action Fraud is advising everyone to be on the lookout for any weird messages from hotels you’ve booked with. If something seems off, it probably is. Don’t just hand over your bank details!
Adam Mercer from Action Fraud said it’s crucial to double-check any unexpected requests. If you get a message asking for your credit card info, it could be a scammer trying to get your money.
He also suggested contacting Booking.com directly if you’re unsure about a message. And if you spot anything fishy, report it! You can forward suspicious emails to the phishing report site.
