St Dogmaels: Clare Rose, a talented artist from Pembrokeshire, is about to hit our screens. She’s competing in the Landscape Artist of the Year on Sky. How cool is that?

Clare was chosen to showcase her work, and her piece, “Lustrous Winter Day,” is based on a snowy day last February. She’s been making waves lately, with her paintings getting selected for big competitions.

She’s not just an artist; she’s also a teacher and has shared her skills in places like Europe and China. Clare loves capturing the effects of light in her work, which is pretty fascinating.

When she found out she was accepted into the competition, she was over the moon! It’s a big deal for her, and she feels it’s a nice recognition of her hard work.

During the competition, Clare painted in Eryri National Park alongside other artists. They had just four hours to create their masterpieces, which is intense!

Only six artists from the heats move on to the semi-finals, and the winner gets a £10,000 commission. That’s a serious prize!

While she can’t spill the beans on how she did, Clare said the whole experience was amazing. She loved meeting fellow artists and the production team was super supportive.

Her granddaughter Izzie joined her, and they even met the show’s presenter, Steven Mangan. Clare was thrilled to meet her painting hero, Tai-Shan Schierenberg, too. What a day!

The first episode airs soon, so don’t miss it! Tune in to see how Clare does on January 29 at 8 PM on Sky Arts.
