Peckham: With just a few days left, Peckham Soup Kitchen is on the hunt for a new spot. They need to move out of their current place on Rye Lane, which they’ve been using for free.

The deadline is mid-January, and they’re feeling the pressure. After their story hit the news last month, they got a ton of support. Now, they’re checking out different spaces to see what might work.

A spokesperson mentioned that many folks have reached out with suggestions. They’re in the process of figuring out which places could be a good fit.

We also asked Southwark Council for help, but they said they don’t have any suitable spaces available nearby. Cllr John Batteson acknowledged the Soup Kitchen’s situation and expressed hope that they find a new home soon.

In addition to their Friday soup kitchen, they deliver food parcels to residents at Caroline Gardens Estate every Wednesday. Many of the residents, especially the elderly, look forward to these visits each week.

Co-founder Fos shared that they’re serving at least 350 people weekly. Berkeley Homes, the developer, confirmed that the Soup Kitchen has been using the unit since 2023 and will need to leave by mid-January. They’ve been covering the business rates and service charges during this time.

If anyone knows of a place for Peckham Soup Kitchen to set up their Friday hub and storage, they’re encouraged to reach out and help out.
