Foxborough: So, guess what? Mike Vrabel is getting a shot at the Patriots’ head coach gig. He’s got that Hall of Fame jacket ready to go!

On Thursday, he’ll sit down with the team after they let go of Jerod Mayo. They didn’t waste any time, did they?

Just a few days ago, they also interviewed a couple of minority candidates to follow the Rooney Rule. But Vrabel is definitely the big name here.

If both sides are feeling good, he could be hired right away. How wild would that be?

Vrabel, who played for the Patriots for eight seasons, knows the team well. He was a third-round pick back in ’97 and joined New England in 2001.

After hanging up his cleats, he jumped straight into coaching. He was with the Titans for a good six years before they decided to part ways.

He spent last year as a consultant with the Browns, but now he’s back in the mix. With his experience, he could easily land any job he wants.

The Patriots might want to act fast, especially with the Raiders making moves too. Tom Brady and Vrabel are buddies, so it could get interesting if both teams are after him.
