Darlington: In 2024, the town council made £299,883 from parking fines. This information came from a Freedom of Information request.

The request showed that 1,985 fines were given out on just five streets. Priestgate had the most fines issued.

Horsemarket and Feethams followed as the second and third streets with the most fines.

A similar request in 2021 found that Commercial Street West Car Park had the highest fines then.

From June 2020 to June 2021, 564 fines were issued to drivers there.

Darlington Borough Council advised drivers to pay attention to parking rules to avoid fines.

A spokesperson said parking enforcement helps manage the roads safely for everyone.

They noted that the number of fines changes each year and urged drivers to follow parking rules.

Any money made goes first to cover costs, with extra funds used for public transport and road improvements.
