Wrexham: So, there’s been a bit of a stir over parking charges next to the multi-storey car park. The St Mark’s Road car park has been closed for a while, and folks were parking for free outside. But recently, new signs popped up, and now it costs between £1 for an hour and £6 for a full day.
Apparently, the outside area is owned by Wrexham Council, but SD Solutions, the company managing the site, says they’re in charge of both the indoor and outdoor sections. They claim the fees are necessary to help with maintenance and keep the area safe and tidy.
However, not everyone is on board with this. Cllr Marc Jones from Plaid Cymru Wrexham argues that they don’t have the right to charge since it’s council land. People have taken to Facebook to voice their frustrations and question the legality of these charges.
SD Solutions insists they’re not just pocketing the money. They say they’re using it to maintain the site, deal with litter, and even handle issues like anti-social behavior. They mentioned that before the charges, people were parking haphazardly, blocking others in, and even leaving needles around.
They’ve also pointed out that they’ve dealt with a lot of damage in the multi-storey, costing around £28,000. The money from parking fees is meant to improve safety, like adding better lighting. It seems that after a decade of charging, people got used to free parking for a few months and are now unhappy about the return of fees.
It’s a classic case of “you can’t please everyone,” right? Some folks just want to complain, while others see the need for better management. It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out.
