Plans for a major park overhaul in Preston face delays after Sports England raised objections regarding playing field space

Preston: So, there’s some drama brewing over at Waverley Park. The city council had this big plan to revamp the park, but Sports England isn’t on board. They’re worried about losing some playing field space, which is kind of a big deal.
The council had this cool vision for the park, including new football pitches, a skate park, and even a pump track for cyclists. Sounds fun, right? But now, Sports England is saying, “Hold up! You can’t just take away playing fields.”
They’re not totally against the upgrades, though. They actually like the idea of improving the football pitches. But they think some of the new features, like a footpath and a wildflower area, might take up space that could be used for sports.
The council is trying to tweak the plans to make everyone happy. If they can’t, the whole thing might end up in the hands of the local government secretary, Angela Rayner. That’s a lot of pressure!
Originally, the planning committee was supposed to decide on this last week, but they decided to hold off until they can sort out the objections. It’s a bit of a waiting game now.
So, fingers crossed they can figure this out soon. Everyone wants a nice park, but not at the cost of losing places to play!
