Barry: A man named Stefan Bjegovic, 42, got violent with his girlfriend after wrongly accusing her of cheating. It all started when she was on the phone, and he lost it.
During a court hearing, it came out that he grabbed her by the throat. She was so scared that she had to bite his thumb to get him to let go. This was just one of several attacks over a short relationship.
In January, he pushed her, causing her to hurt her ribs. She thought she might have broken one. The last incident happened when he got mad about her taking the dog for a walk.
After falling asleep on the sofa, he woke up in a bad mood and started kicking things. When she asked him to leave, he pushed her into a kitchen unit, injuring her back.
Bjegovic was arrested and admitted to strangulation and two counts of assault. He has a history of domestic violence, which didn’t help his case.
His lawyer mentioned that he’s trying to turn his life around, working on his alcohol issues and looking for a job after prison.
In court, the judge pointed out that his paranoia and jealousy, worsened by drinking, were major problems. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison, with half of that time to be served in custody.
