Bristol: So, a bunch of activists from Palestine Action showed up at the Old Bailey, right? They’re facing some serious charges after allegedly breaking into an Israeli defence firm’s base. They’ve all pleaded not guilty, which is a big deal, especially with a ceasefire in Gaza coming up.
Apparently, they rolled up in a repurposed prison van and smashed through the gates of Elbit Systems. They were said to be armed with sledgehammers and whips, which sounds pretty intense. The raid happened last August, and it’s claimed they caused about a million pounds in damage. Yikes!
There are eighteen people charged in total, and they’re looking at some heavy allegations like aggravated burglary and violent disorder. One guy, Samuel Corner, is even accused of attacking police officers with a sledgehammer. That’s no small thing!
Before the hearing, around fifty supporters gathered outside the courthouse in London, shouting “Free Palestine.” It’s clear this case has a lot of people fired up. Among the defendants is a BBC scriptwriter, which adds an interesting twist to the story.
As for the legal side, it looks like they’ll be dealing with this in three separate trials, with the first one kicking off on November 17. It’s going to be a long road ahead for these activists, that’s for sure.
