Pontypridd: A heartbreaking incident unfolded when two people were hit by a car while lying and kneeling in the road. An inquest revealed that Kayleigh Cornwell and Jason Morgan, both 32, suffered severe injuries from the collision.
The accident happened on January 27, 2023, when a Ford Focus, driven by Jonathan Owens, struck them on the B4273 Ynysybwl Road. Despite the quick response from emergency services, both were pronounced dead at the scene.
It turns out that Kayleigh and Jason were heavily intoxicated after a night out. They had mistakenly boarded the wrong bus and were trying to find their way back to Jason’s flat. Kayleigh had a tough life, moving out at 14 and struggling with depression and substance abuse.
Jason, on the other hand, had been working hard to turn his life around after facing homelessness and addiction. His mother shared that he was finally getting back on track before this tragic event.
Witnesses described seeing the pair zig-zagging in and out of the road, seemingly unaware of the danger. One witness even warned them to get out of the road, but they didn’t listen. It was a chaotic scene, and several drivers had to swerve to avoid them.
When the accident occurred, a woman nearby heard the crash and rushed to help. She found Kayleigh trapped under the car and Jason lying nearby. Sadly, both were pronounced dead shortly after paramedics arrived.
The coroner’s investigation revealed that both individuals were under the influence of multiple substances at the time of their deaths. The coroner concluded that their intoxication played a significant role in the tragic accident.
