Oxford: A new project is underway at the John Radcliffe Hospital and Horton General Hospital. This initiative aims to make these hospitals more sustainable. It’s part of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s efforts to reduce their carbon footprint.

The project will add solar panels and energy-efficient fans. It will also install new heating systems and air-to-water heat pumps. These upgrades will help the hospitals use energy more efficiently.

The John Radcliffe Hospital is updating its steam network. This will replace old systems with better, more efficient pipework. The project is being managed by Salix and should finish later this year.

Recently, Salix leaders visited the hospital to check on progress. They noted how important teamwork is for projects like this. Strong partnerships help bring these plans to life.

Hospital staff are also involved in the project. They ensure that patient services continue without interruption. The upgrades will improve energy efficiency and support the NHS’s goal for net zero emissions by 2040.

Funding comes from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. The John Radcliffe Hospital received £24.1 million, while Horton General Hospital got £5.7 million. The Oxford University Hospitals Trust added £8.2 million, totaling £38 million for the project over three years.
