Starting in April, Oxfordshire councils will change garden waste service payments to improve efficiency and customer experience.

Oxfordshire: The councils are changing how residents pay for garden waste services. This new scheme starts in April. It aims to make the subscription process easier for everyone.

When you sign up, you’ll get a garden waste permit sticker. This sticker goes on your brown bin lid. It shows you’re a paid garden waste customer.

Each bin needs its own permit. You’ll receive a new sticker every year when you renew. This helps waste collection crews know which bins to empty.

The goal is to ensure only paying customers have their garden waste collected. Other local authorities, like those in west Oxfordshire, already use this method.

You’ll need to pay annually for your permit. This replaces the old direct debit system. The payment year runs from April 1 to March 31.

Councillor Sam James-Lawrie said the new scheme will improve the garden waste service. An online account option will make it easier for customers to manage their details.

Councillor Mark Coleman added that the new permit scheme will enhance the popular service. They understand that changes can be challenging, so they will keep customers informed.

A frequently asked questions page will be available on their website for more details. The new payment system will open at the end of February.

Current customers will be invited to subscribe and will receive notifications. Full information will be on the council websites, and each house will get a notice about the changes.

Currently, the two districts collect about 25,500 tonnes of garden waste each year. That’s the weight of around 5,000 mature oak trees!
