Oxford, England, Sexual Assault, Sexsomnia

Oxford: Alexander Livadeas faced trial for allegedly grinding against a woman in bed. She said she didn’t want to have sex. Livadeas, 34, claimed he suffers from sexsomnia, a sleep disorder that leads to sexual behavior while asleep.

He mentioned this disorder might have started after his father’s suicide when he was eight. On February 3, the jury found him not guilty of the charges. The incident occurred after a date on July 6, when the woman stayed overnight at his home.

She reported waking up to him grinding against her. After leaving, she received a message from him saying, “I’m sorry for what happened last night.” Initially, Livadeas thought the woman might have fabricated the story due to her upset reaction about his relationship intentions.

Later, he suggested that his actions could be linked to an undiagnosed sleep disorder. This defense ultimately led to his acquittal.
