Stockport: A heartbreaking case unfolded when a man named Daniel Stokes neglected his elderly dog, Poppy. The poor miniature schnauzer was left with matted fur that hurt her when anyone tried to pet her.

Stokes didn’t take Poppy to the vet for ages, and by the time someone reported her condition, it was too late. She was in such bad shape that she had infected gums and was too thin to eat properly. It was really sad.

At 44 years old, Stokes was banned from having pets for five years after admitting to causing unnecessary suffering to Poppy. The neglect happened between August 6 and 20 last year, and it was clear she had been suffering for a long time.

When RSPCA inspector Jess Araujo visited, she could feel Poppy’s bones easily. The poor dog was in so much pain that she yelped when her face was touched. It was a tough situation.

After examining Poppy at the RSPCA’s Greater Manchester Animal Hospital, the vet found her in terrible condition. She was emaciated and couldn’t even be picked up without causing her more pain.

Stokes received a 12-week community order and a curfew, along with a fine of £314. It’s just heartbreaking that Poppy couldn’t be saved. She suffered for too long without proper care.

Inspector Araujo emphasized the importance of getting pets to the vet when they seem unwell. She also thanked the person who reported Poppy’s situation, as public awareness is crucial in helping neglected animals.
