Ho Chi Minh City: So, there’s this restaurant called Lolita that only serves foreigners, and its owner just got arrested. She’s facing some serious charges for helping with prostitution.
It all went down when the police raided a hotel nearby and found two couples in the act. The women said they worked at Lolita, which raised a lot of eyebrows.
Nguyen Hoai Thuong, the 39-year-old owner, was charged after the cops discovered the women were sent to the hotel to entertain foreign clients. Talk about a wild night!
According to reports, the police found two Vietnamese women with two South Korean men in separate rooms. It’s a pretty big deal, and the restaurant is now under investigation.
After the raid, the police checked out the restaurant and detained Ms. Thuong along with five of her staff for questioning. She revealed that since opening in May 2022, they had been offering food and karaoke, but also had a side hustle with women entertaining foreign guests.
In Vietnam, sex work is illegal, so this is a huge issue. The employees were reportedly making a 60% cut from these services, which could cost around 8 million Vietnamese Dong, or about £260.
The whole thing started with dinner at Lolita, and then it escalated to the hotel. Ms. Thuong admitted to being the go-between for her staff and the foreign clients since the restaurant opened.
Authorities are still digging into this case, so we’ll see what happens next.
