Newport: A family is heartbroken after losing their beloved daughter, Rhiannon, at just 26. She passed away on New Year’s Eve 2024, just over a year after being diagnosed with cancer.

Rhiannon’s cancer was discovered during a scan meant to confirm a miscarriage. Her mom, Sarah, shared how much Rhiannon wanted to be a mom. It’s just so tragic.

Before the diagnosis, Rhiannon only had some leg pain, which doctors thought was sciatica. She was just living her life until everything changed. Sarah recalled how devastated Rhiannon was after the miscarriage, naming the baby Rowan.

Rhiannon was adored by her friends and family. After the scan, she was sent to Birmingham for a biopsy, where they found out she had Ewing sarcoma, a rare bone cancer mostly affecting younger people.

She started chemotherapy and even had proton beam therapy in London. Sadly, she was in and out of the hospital with infections and other complications. The only option left was a major surgery, but she was too weak for that.

About three weeks before she passed, doctors told them it was no longer treatable. Rhiannon was terrified of dying and didn’t want to know too much about her condition.

As the eldest child, Rhiannon had a younger brother and sister who looked up to her. She loved her four cats and was a huge fan of Manchester United and Welsh rugby. For her funeral, the family plans to ask attendees to wear team jerseys.

Sarah and Rhiannon had a close bond, FaceTiming daily until Rhiannon’s illness made that difficult. Now, Sarah misses those calls deeply.

Since Rhiannon’s passing, Sarah has received touching messages from her friends, sharing stories she hadn’t heard before. It’s bittersweet, but it’s nice to know how loved Rhiannon was.

To honor Rhiannon, Sarah has started a fundraiser for her funeral. She hopes any leftover funds will go to a cancer charity to help other families facing similar struggles. Every little bit helps.
