Los Angeles: The Oscars nominations have been pushed back again because of the wildfires tearing through the area. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced this change as many people were forced to evacuate their homes.
Initially, they extended the voting period by two days to give members more time to vote. Now, the nominations will be revealed on January 23 in a virtual event, without any in-person media.
Academy leaders expressed their sadness over the fires and the losses in the community. They emphasized the importance of coming together during tough times.
They also mentioned that they had to cancel some events, like the nominees luncheon, to be considerate of the local situation. The Oscars ceremony is still set for March 2 at the Dolby Theatre.
They want to honor the frontline workers who have been helping with the fires and support those affected by the disaster. The goal is to bring some healing to the film community.
These wildfires have really shaken up Hollywood’s awards season, causing delays for other events like the Critics Choice Awards. Even a new Netflix series featuring Meghan Markle has been postponed due to the fires.
The series, “Love, Meghan,” will now debut on March 4 instead of January 15. Meghan expressed gratitude to Netflix for understanding the need to delay the launch while focusing on those impacted by the wildfires.
She and Prince Harry have been active in helping the community, visiting meal distribution sites and donating essential supplies to those in need.
Meanwhile, the Getty Centre is reportedly safe, but there were concerns about the fires reaching it. The fires have caused significant destruction, with many celebrities losing their homes.
Paris Hilton even started an emergency fund to help displaced families after witnessing her own home burn down. Other stars like Jennifer Garner have been volunteering to provide food relief for evacuees.
Sadly, the fires have also led to tragic losses, including the death of a former child star due to carbon monoxide poisoning. It’s a tough time for many in the area.
