A crime gang in Newport was sentenced for trafficking almost three kilograms of cocaine, leading to significant prison time for its members

Newport: An organised crime gang was busted by the police for trafficking nearly three kilograms of cocaine in under nine months. The gang members received a total of 21 years in prison.
At the helm were Jamie Webber and Said Khan, both 35. They ran the operation and brought in others like Michael Cornwall, 43, Alexa Cronin, 42, and Sinead Carey, 24, to sell drugs directly to users in Newport, Cwmbran, and Pontypool. Nabeela Kaid, 36, was also part of the drug sales.
Gwent Police’s serious and organised crime unit launched Operation Biggin to tackle this gang. They executed search warrants in Newport, seizing 15 mobile phones in the process. If you want the latest court updates, you can sign up for their crime newsletter.
During the court proceedings, Webber was sentenced to 10 years, while Cornwall got five years. Kaid received three years and four months, Cronin was sentenced to 28 months, and Carey got a suspended sentence. Said Khan’s sentencing is set for January 24.
Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Edwards praised the efforts of everyone involved in Operation Biggin. He emphasized the harm illegal drugs bring to communities and the need for public help in tackling such issues.
He stated that those who profit from drug trafficking show no regard for the pain they inflict on vulnerable people. The police are always looking for tips to help bring criminals to justice and improve community safety.
