Ellington: A guy named Shaun Dixon went on a wild crime spree in Northumberland, trying to break into homes and cars. It all kicked off around 3am on August 7. He started on Tweed Avenue and then moved around the neighborhood, hitting places like Coquet Drive and Windmill Heights.

This wasn’t his first rodeo. Dixon has a history of burglary and theft. He even managed to grab some car keys from one house, but the police got them back. Thanks to a bunch of CCTV and doorbell cameras, they caught him in the act. He ended up facing six counts of attempted burglary and a few other charges.

When he showed up in court, he didn’t fight it and pleaded guilty to everything. Last Thursday, he was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison. Detective Constable Jon Mullen from Northumbria Police said Dixon is a classic opportunistic thief and that burglary really shakes people up, making them feel unsafe in their own homes.

Mullen also reminded everyone to stay alert and take some simple steps to protect their homes. Lock your doors, keep your valuables out of sight, and just be smart about security. Northumbria Police have teams dedicated to tackling burglary, so if you ever find yourself in a tough spot, don’t hesitate to reach out to them.
