Toronto: So, winter is really making its presence felt, huh? After that last snowstorm, we’re now facing a serious cold snap. It’s like winter just threw another snowball at us, and this one’s icy!
The coldest weather is shifting to Central Canada, and it looks like the Great Lakes region is in for a chilly week. Even Florida is feeling the effects of this cold wave. Can you believe it?
At Pearson International Airport, we might be looking at the longest stretch of below-freezing temps in over three years. That’s a big deal! It’s been a while since we’ve had this kind of cold.
Right now, we’re on track for about ten days of freezing temperatures. That would beat the last record from January 2022. Remember that snowstorm that cost the city a fortune? Yeah, that was a wild time!
If this cold snap keeps going, we could hit 16 days, which would tie with the longest stretch since February 2021. And if it somehow stretches even longer, we’d be looking at records from way back in 2015. But don’t worry, it’s unlikely we’ll be stuck in this for that long.
On another note, the ice coverage on the Great Lakes is super low right now—only about 1.8 percent. That’s way below the usual for this time of year. It’ll be interesting to see how much that changes once this cold snap is over.
So, hang in there, Ontarians! We’ll get through this chilly stretch together.
