Manchester: So, picture this—thousands of folks in Manchester braving the rain to catch an amazing fireworks show for New Year’s Eve. It was the first time the celebration took place at St Peter’s Square, with the library roof as the launch pad for the fireworks.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Manchester without a bit of rain. The weather was pretty grim, with showers starting in the afternoon and sticking around until midnight. Many were worried the event might get canceled, especially with weather warnings in place.

But the council decided to go ahead, telling everyone to bundle up and bring their waterproofs. Damandu and his friends drove two hours to be there, excited for the fireworks. Kit, one of his friends, said it’s always magical to see fireworks, and they couldn’t miss this year’s show.

Even with the rain pouring down, St Peter’s Square was packed with umbrellas. One guy, Luke, took it upon himself to entertain the crowd with a spontaneous drum and bass set. He thought it would lift spirits, and it seemed to work as people danced or just enjoyed the vibe.

Many folks took shelter under nearby buildings, trying to stay dry while waiting for the show. Abi from Cardiff was there for his first Manchester fireworks display, but he wasn’t too keen on the weather. He found a dry spot to watch the show, just like many others.

The council expected around 20,000 people, but the rain cut that number in half. Still, over 10,000 brave souls showed up, ready to celebrate. The square quickly filled up, and it was a sight to see with all the umbrellas around.

As the night went on, DJ Joe McGrath got the crowd hyped with music and chants. The rain even became part of the fun, with people doing ‘brolly’ dances and cheering loudly as midnight approached. When the fireworks finally lit up the sky, the crowd erupted with cheers, proving that even a rainy night couldn’t dampen their spirits. “Only in Manchester,” said local councillor Pat Karney, capturing the essence of the night.
