Oldham: So, there was this really shocking incident at Royal Oldham Hospital. A nurse named Achamma Cherian got stabbed with scissors on Saturday night. It’s just awful.
The police got called around 11:30 PM after they heard about the stabbing. They said Achamma suffered some pretty serious injuries, which they described as “life-changing.”
Then, a guy named Roman Haque, who’s 37 and from Royton, showed up in court. He’s facing charges for attempted murder and having a pair of scissors in public. Can you believe that?
In court, he didn’t say much, and his lawyer mentioned they wouldn’t be asking for bail. The judge told him that this case is serious enough to go to a crown court.
Detective Superintendent Matt Walker from Greater Manchester Police said they’re really focused on supporting Achamma and her family during this tough time. It’s just heartbreaking.
Even the Health Secretary, Wes Streeting, chimed in, calling nurses the “backbone of our NHS.” It’s a reminder of how important these healthcare workers are.
