London: Ofsted is launching a consultation on a new inspection model. This includes introducing ‘Ofsted Report Cards’ and a five-point grading scale.

The new report cards will give parents detailed info about their child’s school. This covers more areas of practice in schools, early years, and further education providers.

The five-point grading scale will replace the current single-word judgments. It will range from ‘causing concern’ to ‘exemplary.’

Sir Martyn Oliver, His Majesty’s Chief Inspector, emphasized the goal is to raise standards. He wants to improve the lives of children, especially the disadvantaged.

The consultation will last for 12 weeks, from February 3 to April 28. Ofsted plans to publish a report on the feedback in the summer.

Final reforms will be piloted across all education areas before being implemented in autumn 2025. Changes to children’s social care inspections will follow in 2026.

The consultation aims to serve the interests of parents and children.
