Criccieth: The town recently had a big celebration for the official opening of the new cylch meithrin. It’s a lovely spot for early education and childcare.

Back in September, the cylch meithrin and after-school club moved into their new home at Ysgol Treferthyr. They had a fun celebration on January 9 to mark the occasion.

Local councillors and MP Liz Saville Roberts were there to check out the new space and see all the cool resources. They also got to hear from the chief executive of Mudiad Meithrin about the services offered.

Cylch Meithrin Criccieth had been at the old Ysgol Treferthyr site for over 30 years. In June 2024, they got the chance to apply for the new location, and by September, they were all settled in.

The new setting is fantastic, featuring a spacious classroom, changing room, toilets, a kitchen, and even an outdoor area. Ayesha Tudor, the leader, mentioned that they managed to get new equipment thanks to grants and fundraising.

Starting in September, they also added an After School Club for kids aged 2-11. Ayesha emphasized that their team is dedicated to providing top-notch early education while keeping the kids’ wellbeing at the forefront.

Cylch Meithrin Criccieth is a registered charity, so they rely on fees, grants, and fundraising to keep everything running smoothly. Ayesha expressed gratitude for the support from local friends and businesses.

Despite the chilly weather, the open day was a hit, with many folks coming out to celebrate. Visitors included local dignitaries and community members, all eager to show their support.

Ayesha also highlighted the ongoing support from Mr. and Mrs. Egginton of The Prince of Wales, who have been fantastic in organizing fundraising events. They’re planning a St David’s Day quiz night next!

Both Liz Saville Roberts and Dr. Lansdown Davies spoke about the importance of introducing the Welsh language in early education, which is a big deal for the community.

The new Ysgol Treferthyr opened last autumn, thanks to an £8.8 million project by Gwynedd Council. It’s an eco-friendly school that aims to provide a great learning environment for the kids in Criccieth and nearby areas. The old school had to close as it was no longer fit for purpose.
