Oldham: A nurse was stabbed at Royal Oldham Hospital, and it’s pretty shocking. The nurse, Achamma Cherian, was hurt badly, and the whole thing happened late at night in the hospital’s acute medical unit.
The guy accused of this, Roman Haque, is 37 and showed up in court for a quick hearing. He’s facing some serious charges, including attempted murder. He didn’t plead, and his lawyer said he won’t be applying for bail.
Haque was dressed in a grey sweatshirt and had two prison officers with him. The judge made it clear that this case is too serious for a lower court, so it’ll be handled by a crown court next month.
Detective Superintendent Matt Walker from Greater Manchester Police said they’re focused on supporting the nurse and her family during this tough time. They’re also working with the NHS to help anyone affected by the incident.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting spoke out, calling nurses the backbone of the NHS, especially after hearing about the nurse’s injuries. It’s a tough situation, and everyone is hoping for her recovery.
