Canberra: So, Labor is really going after the Coalition’s nuclear energy plans, and they’re doing it on TikTok! They’ve rolled out some meme-filled ads to catch the attention of Gen Z.
These videos are pretty clever, mixing in references from shows like Gossip Girl and even The Grinch. One ad claims that Peter Dutton’s nuclear scheme could hike up power bills by $1200 a year. Ouch!
Another video stitches together negative news about nuclear energy, showing The Grinch saying he “hates” the idea. It’s all about making the nuclear plan look risky and unappealing.
Labor’s really pushing back against Dutton’s claims that nuclear would cut costs by 44% compared to renewables. But the Shadow Treasurer, Angus Taylor, can’t seem to pin down when those savings would actually kick in.
Employment Relations Minister Murray Watt is calling on Dutton to clarify his plans, especially since people are feeling the pinch with rising living costs.
Things aren’t looking great for the Coalition either. Two key leaders from Northern Territory and Queensland have said they don’t want nuclear energy in their states. They’re sticking to gas as a more reliable option.
It’s a wild political battle, and it seems like Labor is trying to make the most of it by connecting with younger voters where they spend their time—on social media!
