This road, which opened back in 2018, has gained a bit of a reputation for flooding. It got hit hard on New Year’s Eve, leaving cars stuck and abandoned before the snow came pouring down across Greater Manchester.

On Friday morning, they inspected the road, hoping to reopen it by noon. By 2 PM, the good news was confirmed, ending a frustrating 10-day closure for everyone trying to get around.

People have been pretty vocal about the A555’s extended closure, especially small business owners in Greater Manchester. They’ve raised concerns about the road’s design, and even the travel agency group ABTA has chimed in.

The A555 is a key route to Manchester Airport and connects to the wider motorway network, including the M56 and the A34 into Manchester city center. It’s a busy road, so this closure really impacted a lot of folks.

Stockport Council took to Facebook to announce the reopening, saying, “From 2 PM, the A555 will be fully open.” They thanked everyone for their patience while the teams worked to make the road safe.

They also reminded drivers to be careful, as temperatures are expected to drop over the weekend, and there’s still an amber weather alert for cold conditions.
