West Parley: So, there’s this big plan for apartments and a Costa café at Parley Cross, right? Well, it’s not going over well with the locals at all.
People are saying it’s like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. They’re worried about too many buildings and the traffic getting worse. A lot of folks are actually asking for more green spaces instead.
The plan includes 50 sheltered flats and 25 open market apartments, plus a public park and some commercial spaces. But many residents think it’s just too much for the area.
There was a public consultation back in August, and over 2,000 people got involved. But the feedback hasn’t been great. Many are voicing their concerns about overdevelopment.
One resident from Berkley Avenue was pretty vocal at a parish council meeting, saying the development is “NOT wanted” by the community. They pointed out that the nearby Bellway homes aren’t selling, so why push ahead with this?
Another local mentioned that traffic is already a nightmare, and with the airport expanding, it’s only going to get worse. They suggested creating a green space instead of more buildings.
Even the West Parley Parish Council is against the development. They’ve told Dorset Council that the design is poor and doesn’t fit with the village’s character. They’re also worried about the impact on the last remaining protected trees nearby.
With all this talk about congestion and overdevelopment, it seems like the plans for Parley Cross are in serious trouble. Public comments on the proposals are open until January 23rd, so there’s still time for residents to make their voices heard.
