North Yorkshire Police Honors PC Rosie Prior Following Tragic Incident
North Yorkshire Police held a tribute for PC Rosie Prior, who tragically lost her life in a road accident while assisting others

Thirsk: Today, officers from North Yorkshire Police gathered to honor PC Rosie Prior, who sadly died in a crash while helping others. It was a somber moment for everyone involved.
The incident happened on Saturday morning when PC Prior, 45, was struck by a heavy goods vehicle on the A19 at Bagby. She had stopped to assist motorists involved in a previous accident.
Tragically, both PC Prior and Ryan Welford, the driver of a car she was helping, lost their lives at the scene. A teenage boy from the same car is currently in serious but stable condition in the hospital.
The driver of the heavy goods vehicle, a 65-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He’s been released while the investigation continues.
Following the accident, heartfelt tributes poured in for PC Prior and Mr. Welford. Chief Constable Tim Forber addressed the police force at their headquarters, leading a minute of silence in memory of the two.
In his tribute, Chief Constable Forber expressed deep sadness over the loss and emphasized the need to support the families during this tough time. He asked for privacy for the grieving families.
PC Prior joined the North Yorkshire Police as a student officer in May 2022. Her family described her as a loving mother and wife, who will be greatly missed.
Mr. Welford’s family also shared their sorrow, remembering him as a hardworking and devoted father and husband. They too are feeling the loss deeply.
North Yorkshire Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward and help with the investigation.
