Thirsk: A North Yorkshire police officer has sadly lost her life after being hit by a lorry. This happened while she was helping at the scene of another accident.

PC Rosie Prior was on the side of the A19 at Bagby, near Thirsk, when the lorry struck her and the people she was assisting. It was around 08:55 GMT on Saturday morning.

In the earlier crash, Ryan Welford, a 41-year-old from Knaresborough, tragically died at the scene. His family is heartbroken, describing him as a loving father and husband.

The lorry driver, a 65-year-old from Berwick-upon-Tweed, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but has since been released while investigations continue.

Meanwhile, a teenage boy who was in Mr. Welford’s car is in serious but stable condition at the hospital. It’s a tough time for everyone involved.

North Yorkshire Chief Constable Tim Forber expressed deep sadness over PC Prior’s death, calling it a traumatic event for all. Her family remembers her as a loving mum and sister, and they will miss her dearly.
