London: So, there’s been a bit of a mess in Muswell Hill. Homes in the area are without gas because of flooding in the gas pipes. It all started when a water main burst, and now over 100 engineers are on the scene trying to sort it out.
The burst happened at the corner of Roman Road and Sydney Road on a Sunday. While the water leak has been fixed, the gas pipes are still filled with water, leaving many homes and businesses in the lurch.
These teams are working hard to pump out all the water from the gas mains. It’s a big job, and they’re taking it seriously. Cadent, the gas company, says they need to get every drop out to keep things safe.
They’ve got to turn off the gas supply at each affected property first. Then, they’ll remove the water before they can safely bring the gas back. It’s a process, and they’ll have to check everything is working right before turning the gas back on.
Engineers are going door-to-door to handle the gas supplies. They’ve been busy with this all day. Residents are being told not to turn off their gas unless the National Gas Emergency Service says so. Plus, they should be careful not to overload the electricity supply.
As the engineers work to pump out the water, Cadent is keeping everyone updated on their website. They’ve also set up a customer center for questions, and Finchley Lido Leisure Centre is letting residents use their showers if they need to.
Cadent is prioritizing vulnerable customers, especially those on the Priority Services Register. If you know someone who might need extra help, they want you to let them know at the customer center.
And hey, if you smell gas, don’t wait—call the national gas emergency number right away!
