Epping: Noddy has been a favorite spot for kids outside the Piccola shop in Epping High Street for over 20 years. Sadly, the shop is closing after 40 years because the owners are retiring.
When folks heard the news, kids were really upset about losing Noddy. You know, the one where they could drop in pennies and listen to the music? It was a real heartbreaker for them.
To save the day, Epping Town Council stepped in and bought Noddy for £500. They’re planning to discuss where he’ll go next at an upcoming council meeting. Plus, they even gave Noddy a long service certificate, which they put in the shop window.
The Town Mayor, Cllr. Cherry McCredie, shared how she brought a card and champagne to the Piccola owners to thank them for their years in the community. She was worried about Noddy, who was wheeled out every morning for the kids to enjoy.
Parents told her how their kids were in tears at the thought of losing him. So, the council knew they had to act fast. With so many shops closing, losing Noddy would have been a real blow!
Now, thanks to the council, Noddy is safe and sound. They’ll figure out his new spot soon, so future generations can enjoy him too!
