Salford: So, here’s the scoop. Train services are going to be on pause for a few weekends in Salford while they spruce up the train stations. It’s all part of a big £21 million project to add a third platform at Salford Crescent station. This should help with the flow of passengers and cut down on those annoying delays.
Salford Crescent is a busy spot, with about 1.2 million people coming and going each year. It connects to places like Manchester and even the airport. But while they’re working on it, a part of University Road West will be closed for about a year starting January 13. They’re trying to keep things running smoothly for locals, so there’s a diversion in place.
The work at Salford Crescent is expected to wrap up in 2026. Plus, there’s another £10 million project happening at Salford Central station this year. Network Rail is teaming up with Transport for Greater Manchester to make things more accessible and improve the station building.
Salford Central will be closed from February 10 to April 21 while they get that work done. Because of all this, no trains will be running in Salford on certain weekends in 2025, including March 1-2, March 8-9, and a few others. So, if you’re planning to travel, make sure to check ahead!
Ben Porter from Network Rail mentioned that the new platform will help manage train movements better, leading to smoother journeys. He also apologized for the inconvenience caused by the road closure. Mike McCusker from Salford council added that this investment is a big step in improving the city’s transport infrastructure.
Simon Elliott from TfGM echoed those sentiments, saying these upgrades are crucial for a more reliable transport network. It’s all about making things better for everyone in the long run!
